Result - Buxton FC Res. 0-4 Rocester FC

Saturday saw us away at Buxton FC Reserves for our first match of the new campaign in the SCSL…

The first half was entertaining and evenly balanced with both teams creating plenty of chances, and it was down to a combination of defensive endeavour and luck - at both ends - which denied what could have been a high scoring 45 minutes to leave the half-time score at 0-0.

Half-time Score : Buxton FC Res 0-0 Rocester FC

The second half saw the Romans 'hit the ground running' and within 60 seconds, a strike from Lewis McMurdo just went wide.

Two minutes later, Jordan Dodd put Rocester ahead when he found himself in a 'one-on-one' situation and the resulting shot found the back of the Buck's net!

However, the Bucks didn't take this 'lying down' and just minutes later, they responded with an effort which saw their forward in a 'one-on-one' with Lewis Jackson who bravely raced out to stop the shot.

Buxton didn't ease up and two minutes later they found themselves in the same position with just Lewis Jackson between them and the goal, and once again Lewis raced out to block the shot...

This time, Lewis managed to take the sting out of the shot, but the ball was still heading towards an empty goal...

Fortunately, Brandon Alkins raced back and managed a superb clearance right in front of the goal!

By now, Buxton must have been thinking that this just wasn't going to be 'their day'...

The Romans were now in the ascendancy and appeared to be applying more pressure and in the 76th minute, following a great run, Dom Vernon unleashed a shot which rebounded off the post and fell to Lewis McMurdo who volleyed from about 20 yds out to find the back of the net to make it two-nil to the Romans!

Just 3 minutes later and following yet another great run from the left, Dom Vernon slotted the ball past the Buck's goalkeeper to make it three-nil.

The Romans didn't 'ease-off' and in the 90th minute, Chaz Lucy made it four-nil with a brilliant finish to slot home at the 'keeper's near post.
