Rocester FC v FC Isle of Man
NWCFL Division One (South)
Kick-off 1:45pm

Rocester did extremely well to hold the free-scoring FC Isle of Man to a 2-2 draw at Hillsfield on Saturday.

Despite the Romans making a lively start to the match, it was the visitors who took the lead in the ninth minute when a Stephen Whitley cross was headed past Charlie Wood and into the net by the Ravenís top scorer, Sean Doyle.

Score: Rocester 0-1 FC Isle of Man

However, the Romans drew level in the 32nd minute when a free kick came over and found Jayden Hunter on the edge of the Ravenís box. He then rifled a shot into the top corner for his third goal in successive games!

Score: Rocester 1-1 FC Isle of Man

The Romansí elation was fairly short-lived as the Ravens were back in the lead after 38 minutes when following a mix up, Rocester lost possession to Sean Doyle whose shot skidded off the grass and past Charlie Wood for his second of the match and 27th of the season!

Score: Rocester 1-2 FC Isle of Man

By now, the less than perfect weather saw conditions underfoot deteriorate, however, both teams continued to put in battling performances right up to the half time whistle without further reward.

Half-time score: Rocester 1-2 FC Isle of Man

The second half was a very muddy affair as the rain continued. As a result, there was little in the way of finesse Ė just grit and determination by both teams!

The Romans were unlucky when Cavan Holford saw his dipping shot tipped over the bar by the Ravenís keeper (Dean Kearns) as Rocester pressed for an equaliser.

The Ravens were then reduced to 10 men in the 70th minute following an incident on the touchline which saw Sean Quaye being given his marching orders.

Rocester didnít take advantage of their numeric superiority for the next 20 minutes, but they just never gave up and in the 91st minute, were awarded a penalty for a handball.

Captain Cavan Holford stepped up and made no mistake much to the delight of the home supporters!

The Romans then played down the remaining 3 minutes of added time to share in the spoils against one of the best teams in the league!!
