Saturday 2nd October

St. Martins FC v Rocester FC
Northwest Counties League Division One (South)
Kick-off 3:00pm

A comprehensive (and much needed) victory by the Romans this afternoon, as they controlled from the first minute….

Rocester started really well and in the 15th minute, Cavan Holford curled one in to the top corner from the edge of the box.

St. Martins 0-1 Rocester.

Two minutes later and St. Martins’ first shot of the game from some 25 yards was tipped over by Charlie Wood.

With 20 mins gone, Alex Cimino pounced and drove the ball in to the net.

St. Martins 0-2 Rocester.

Over the next ten to fifteen minutes, the game became a little ‘scrappy’, however, Rocester were by far the better side thus far.

With 37 minutes on the clock, a superb break by Rocester found Lewis Dawson on his way (but with a defender on his back).

He managed to get his shot away, but it was well saved by the St. Martins’ keeper.

Soon after, a perfectly timed through ball by Cavan Holford found Jack Grimshaw but the linesman ruled that he was offside!

Half-time score: St. Martins FC 0-2 Rocester FC.

For the first quarter of an hour of the second half, the Romans played well without creating any real chances.

Then, with 60 minutes on the clock, a well taken corner in from Kev Fernandes found Cavan Holford who neatly tapped in for his second of the match.

St. Martins 0-3 Rocester.

The 65th minute saw Rocester’s first substitution of the afternoon with Oli Griffiths coming on for David Adeyeye.

In the 74th minute, Rocester made their second substitution as Lewis Dawson was replaced by Max Williams.

The Romans maintained the pressure and in the 76th minute, another dangerous corner was headed goalward by Julius Ndene, however, Jack Jones in the St. Martins’ goal made yet another great save!

In the 87th minute Rocester made their final substitution of the afternoon as Jacob Evans was replaced by David Ndene.

What an inspired substitution by the manager - A minute later and David Ndene finished off a superb break by the Romans!

St. Martins 0-4 Rocester.

Full-time.

The Romans dominated both halves of this game with their creative play and clinical finishing and were rewarded with a 4-0 win, with a goal apiece for Alex Cimino and David Ndene and a brace for Cavan Holford!

Final score: St. Martins 0-4 Rocester
