Saturday 14th August
Maine Road FC v Rocester FC
NWCFL Division One (South)
The Romans got off to a poor start...
On the 15-minute mark, Maine Road created a couple of decent chances, but to no avail. Then Elisio Francisco tested their keeper in reply for the Romans.
Half time score 0-0
After 64 mins, the Romans were caught whist playing out and the resulting free header for Reece Lyndon gave Maine Road the lead.
Following the goal, Rocester made three substitutions in quick succession.
The first being David Pereira on for his debut, replacing Brandon Newell.
The second substitution for the Romans saw Jack Stevens replacing Elisio Francisco.
Finally, Josh Oultram was also brought on, and almost immediately forced a good save!
70 mins, a second goal for Reece Lyndon took the score line to 2-0 and to be
fair, the Romans couldn't complain.
However, 9 minutes later, David Pereira scored with a deflected long-ranger to hand Rocester a lifeline....
on the 84th minute mark, Youssef Bellatar scored for Maine Road with a direct
free kick to make it 3-1.
In the dying seconds, Jack Stevens had a great chance to reduce the arrears, unfortunately, he blasted the shot wide.
Full time score 3-1
Although this was a fully deserved victory for Maine Road, the Romans did create (just) enough chances to come away with something from this match.
Also, congratulations are due to David Pereira on his debut goal.
