Rocester FC v Leicester Road FC
MFL Division One
Although Leicester Road were
the 'in form' team, during the first half, there was not much to separate the
As early as the 8th minute, Liam Robinson saw an excellent shot tipped over the Leicester Road crossbar.
Minutes later, following another decent build up by Rocester, Jack Thatcher saw his shot just clear the bar.
Leicester Road then replied with a cross into the Rocester area which Read headed against the bar.
On the 14th minute mark, Charlie Wood made an excellent save to deny Leicester's Langham.
Just 5 minutes later, Charlie Wood made yet another good save when Brennan sent a powerful header goal bound.
Rocester responded and applied pressure at the other end but with no reward.
On the half hour, the visitors created a couple of good chances in quick succession with a shot which cleared the bar followed by a move which saw Charlie Wood make yet another great save when he won the ball at the feet of the advancing Munton.
In reply, the Romans broke quickly and got into a great position, however the resulting strike was just wide of the goal.
Two minutes later, Langham was played through but took too long and the chance was squandered.
However, the visitors kept pressing and a few seconds later, they managed to head against the crossbar.
Rocester 0-0 Leicester Road
The second half was a different story...
Within 6 minutes, Leicester Road scored following a corner which appeared to be headed in almost on the goal line.
Rocester 0-1 Leicester Road.
Rocester still looked dangerous when going forward but saw a number of goalscoring chances squandered.
Meanwhile, the visitors were still creating problems for Rocester at the other end and on the 73rd minute, they were awarded another corner.
The resulting ball into the Romans' area found an unmarked Earls who headed in from six yards.
Rocester 0-2 Leicester Road.
Rocester continued to work hard but although they still managed to create opportunities, they failed to find the net and of course, Leicester Road continued to apply pressure in response.
In the 85th minute, Munton curled a shot in from 20 yards - straight into the top left hand corner of the net!
Rocester 0-3 Leicester Road.
Seconds later, in reply, Rocester hit the bar with a header from 6 yards following a cross from the left...
Final score: Rocester 0 Leicester Road 3
Once again, there are positives to be taken from this performance...
Considering that we were playing against one of the best teams in the league, the first half was a fairly even contest and with a little luck, we might have even had a couple of goals (although the visitors also had their chances).
Also, in the dying seconds, the woodwork denied us a consolation goal.
Another positive is that for the second consecutive game, the opponents' twitter pages contain references as to the fact that the Romans always look dangerous on the break... If we can re-kindle the clinical finishing, we will start to realise the potential in our young squad!
So once again, Come on you Romans!!!
