Competition – THE MFL Division 1
Venue – The Coppice Colliery Ground, Heath Hayes
Opponents – Heath Hayes FC
Result – Heath Hayes FC 1 - 1 Rocester FC
Kick-off 3:00 pm
Following an excellent second half performance against Paget Rangers FC on the previous Tuesday, The Romans hoped to maintain their winning streak as they travelled to Heath Hayes FC.
The starting line-up saw the inclusion of Dave Bailey
in at right-back, Tommie Cooke moved from midfield to central defence and the
resulting vacancy was filled by Jordan Godfrey returning to his familiar
midfield role. The front three remained unchanged from Tuesday.
The weather conditions didn't lend themselves to a particularly enjoyable match for either the players or the spectators...
It had been wet and windy since early morning and it continued to rain for the duration of the match. However, the pitch stood up to the conditions remarkably well.
The first half was a largely uneventful affair with few goal scoring opportunities for either side, however, the 'Hayes' just shaded it.
Half time score: Heath Hayes 0-0 Rocester
After the break, the Romans upped their tempo, unfortunately, so did the home side and it was beginning to look as though one goal would be enough to decide the outcome...
After 56 minutes, the Romans made their first substitution with James Handley replacing Jack Stevens.
The action continued with both teams creating a few half chances which ultimately broke down!
Rocester made further substitutions in the 70th minute with Kieran Lawton and Harrison Richardson coming on for Jack Thatcher and Jack Dundas...
Just 2 minutes later, the Romans scored!
Rocester had been awarded a free kick deep into the Hayes' half on the left hand side.
Liam Robinson played a beautifully weighted ball into the box where Harrison Richardson (who was just 2 minutes into his debut), volleyed the ball low into the bottom left corner of the net!
Well done Harrison!!!
Score: Heath Hayes 0-1 Rocester
From the restart, try as they might, the Romans couldn't find a much needed second goal and in the meantime the Hayes maintained pressure at the other end.
In the 85th minute, the Romans' defence was finally breached as Alastair Brauns scored his first of this season's league campaign.
The Romans were able to run down the clock without further incident!
Heath Hayes 1-1 Rocester
To conclude, today's match was a real battle in very difficult conditions which didn't lend themselves to the 'Beautiful Game' and on reflection this was a fair result...
So we now look forward to Tuesday's visit to Stapenhill...
C'mon you mighty Romans!!!
