Competition – THE MFL Division 1

Venue – Oldfields Sports Club, Uttoxeter

Opponents – Uttoxeter Town FC

Result – Uttoxeter Town FC 2 - 1 Rocester FC

The Romans made their way down the B5030 to Uttoxeter in a confident mood following Friday night's valiant defensive performance against OJM Black Country FC.

The Manager selected a similar line-up as for the previous match with just one change - Ash Thompson was brought into the starting eleven at the expense of Liam Dawson with Thompson replacing Tommie Cooke in central defence, who in turn took over the now vacant midfield position alongside Jordan Godfrey.

The first half was largely uneventful with one exception- Matt Nutt suffered a calf-strain after just 17 minutes and it was felt wise to substitute him rather than risk making matters worse!

Jay Lovatt (making his ‘League debut’) was brought on.

Half-time score 0-0.

For the first 10 minutes or so after half-time, the Romans shaded it and just on the 49th minute, Jack Dundas unleashed an absolute screamer from just outside their box… It flew over the keeper and into the roof of the net!

Uttoxeter Town 0-1 Rocester.

However, Uttoxeter did not rest on their laurels and started to generate more chances…

They kept Charlie Wood on his toes and had it not been for his excellent performance, the goal difference might have been greater.

Their first goal came in the 56th minute when James Curley got onto the end of a cross for a ‘tap-in’.

Uttoxeter Town 1-1 Rocester.

Uttoxeter doubled their tally in the 66th minute when James Curley got his second of the evening in a similar manner to his first.

Uttoxeter Town 2-1 Rocester.

Try as they might, the Romans could not find a way back!

Full-time score Uttoxeter Town FC 2-1 Rocester FC.

As a footnote, many thanks to all the supporters (both home and away), who made it a ‘sell-out’ and we look forward to seeing you all again (hopefully!) at Hillsfield on December 26th in the return leg of the ‘El Staffico’.

So now the Romans turn their attention to next Saturday's home tie versus Coventry Copsewood....

C'mon you Romans!!!
