Midland Football League Division Qne
Rocester 2 - 1 Lichfield City
By Jim Hannah
ROCESTER manager Paul Wright praised the way his players bounced back from their weekend mauling to beat promotion hopefuls Lichfield City on Tuesday night in Midland League Division One...
The Romans went into the game on the back of a 6-1 defeat at home to Atherstone Town, but produced a fantastic team effort to beat Lichfield 2-1 at Hillsfield and keep the club on course for a strong end to the season.
Liam Robinson gave the Romans the lead after 25 minutes, stabbing the ball home from close range following a corner from Jack Hurd.
However, after missing a penalty, Lichfield were level on 36 minutes when Kyle Patterson curled a great shot in to the top right corner of the net from just outside the area.
A minute before the break, Rocester nosed ahead for a second time and again it was Hurd who provided the cross from another corner for Elisio Francisco to head into the net...
There was no further scoring, but the win moved Rocester up one place to eighth after Heath Hayes dropped to ninth following a 3-0 defeat at Uttoxeter Town...
“It was a good response to Saturday’s disappointing result against the best side we have played this season in Atherstone Town,” said Wright.
“Lichfield are a good, physical side. However, the lads were up for the challenge.”
“The (Romans) starting line-up averages 22-years-old and we are getting clubs watching our players every game. The players are young and learning and need to learn their trade before they are able to test themselves at a higher level. We play all the teams above us and our aim is to have a say on what happens in the race for the title,” added the manager.
