Staffs FA Senior Cup

Brocton 2 Rocester 0

An outstanding performance by Brocton goalkeeper Henry Smith denies Rocester in their endeavour to reach the quarter-finals of the Staffs FA Senior Cup...

Although the two teams were occupying opposite ends of the Midland League Division One (with Brocton currently in third place), a spirited performance during the second half and a number of missed chances in the first half, left Rocester looking the more likely promotion contenders....

Smith pulled off a series of fine saves as the Romans fought hard to cancel out a first half goal poached by Brocton's Matthew Tolley in the 15th minute.

Tolley's goal certainly had an element of luck as the ball took a deflection over the Roman's 'keeper Charlie Wood's head.

The Romans were unlucky not to gain an equaliser in the 51st minute, when a looping header from Asa Tomkinson beat the Badger's 'keeper only to bounce to safety off the cross bar.

It was the Roman's spirited fight back which led to the Badgers' goalie finally being awarded the 'Man of the Match'. But despite Rocester's dominance, it was Brocton who scored the only goal of the second half - and again, there was an element of luck when an unmarked Regan Smith appeared to be in an offside position when he cooly beat Rocester's young goalie..
