Rocester All-Stars Win Mini World Cup Tournament - by Richard Froggatt

A team made up primarily of ex-Rocester players lifted the Mini World Cup tournament trophy on Saturday in a Birmingham University based six-a-side event.

Current goalkeeper Richard Froggatt was joined for the tournament by former Romans Jack Langston, Chris McComisky, Danny McLeod and Chris Sterling, along with guest players Craig Marshall and Steve McMahon, who made up the playing squad. The team was marshalled by an as-ever vociferous Dave Langston in a trip down memory lane.

The tournament was played in a round-robin league format, with all of the nine competing teams playing one 8-minute match against each other.

The Romans old boys made a hesitant start in their opening game, and with chances at a premium they drew 0-0.

However, they quickly established a rhythm and went on to win all of their remaining seven matches - conceding only one goal along the way - to comfortably win the trophy in the bright summer sun.

As ever, with tournaments like this it would not have gone ahead without a fantastic effort from the organisers and Referees, so a huge thanks goes out to Ollie and Chris Humpidge and their team of officials.
