New U-18s Manager Nigel Pritchard (second left) meets Richard Owen, Martin Meylan and Steve SwanwickRomans Launch Youth Team

Rocester Football Club are pleased to announce that they will be running a U-18s Youth Team next season.

The Romans intend to enter the team into the Midland Floodlit Youth League, and have already applied to enter the prestigious F.A. Youth Cup.

Nigel Pritchard, a qualified F.A. Tutor and a F.A. Level 2 Goalkeeping Coach, has been appointed Manager of the new team.

Chairman David Price sees the new youth team as a big step for the club, and is pleased to have Nigel on board.

"We believe Nigel is the right man for the job, he's very experienced and is currently working for Port Vale coaching their youngsters. He also held a similar position with Wolverhampton Wanderers before that so he knows what it's all about." Said Price.

"Nigel will be working closely with our reserve and first team managers, we want players to progress through our teams and not just walk away because they are too old to play youth football."

Price continued; "We've been talking about setting up an Under-18s side for quite some time because it's a level that's been missing. It will provide our current junior players with a link into senior football and also add depth to the playing strength of the whole club."

"Another of our aims is to attract players to the club from the surrounding towns who have missed out on a career at a higher level. There are a lot of lads out there who have been released by professional or bigger clubs than Rocester, and we can offer them the chance to play at a decent level with us or put themselves in the shop window if they are good enough to move back up the ladder."

Trials are being organised for Wednesday 9th July, and players who are interested in attending are being asked to write directly to Nigel Pritchard c/o Rocester Football Club, Mill Street, Rocester, ST14 5JX or e-mail RocesterFC@btinternet.com . Please provide your name and a contact telephone number, along with your date of birth, favoured position and brief playing history.
