On Thursday 26th March Rocester Football Club held a successful Sportsman's Night at Uttoxeter Town Hall with ex-Liverpool, Newcastle, Sunderland and England defender Alan Kennedy as guest speaker.
Alan is the only player to score the winning goal in two European Cup Finals, a feat he achieved by netting the only goal of the 1981 final in Paris when Liverpool defeated Real Madrid, and three years later he struck the winning penalty in the shoot-out to beat Roma in the Olympic Stadium in Rome.
He kept the sell-out audience entertained with tales from his playing days, his rivalry for the England left-back position with Kenny Sansom and the antics of eccentric goalkeeper Bruce Grobbelaar.
Framed shirts autographed by Liverpool's Fernando Torres and Manchester United's Ronaldo and Eric Cantona were succesfully auctioned, and a football signed by the England team (donated by Mick Jessup) was raffled.
Alan, who brought along some of his many medals for supporters to view, spent some time autographing pictures and shirts for the audience, and presented the club's main sponsor Phil Webster, of Hill & Webster Ltd, with a framed Rocester shirt.
Master of Ceremonies for the evening was former Derby County striker Roger Davies, while comedian Austin Knight rounded off a superb evening with his hilarious routine.

"Everybody had a great time, the speakers were excellent and we were able to raise some much-needed funds for the club."
