2010-11
Presentation Evening - Saturday 21st May 2011
Rocester Football Club held their Annual Presentation
Evening on Saturday at their Hillsfield ground, where players,
management, fans and officials came together to celebrate a season of
achievement both on and off the pitch.
Speaking on behalf of recently appointed Chairman Mark Deaville who was
on holiday, Vice-chairman Andy Nicholls spoke about the progress the
club has made during what had proved to be an eventful season.
With a newly-elected board of officials in place,
recognition was given to a number of stalwarts who have steered the club
through some difficult times, the highlight of the evening being the
presentation of an engraved salver to 'Mr Rocester' Gilbert Egerton who
celebrated 60 years of service to the club by being made the Club's Life
President.
After speeches thanking sponsors and volunteers at the club, Manager
Dave Langston awarded his Manager's Player of the Season to central
defender Chris McComisky, who he described as "hugely improved and a
real asset to the club".
The Players' Player of the Season went unusually, but
unanimously to Physio Mick 'Slotter' Ede, who was almost tempted to
reveal the secrets of the physio's couch in his acceptance speech.
Supporters' Player of the Season was awarded to
Rocester's very own Darren Bullock (pictured left), who has enjoyed a fine season
alongside McComisky at the heart of the Romans defence.
Jack Langston and Ben Fairclough shared the top
goalscorer award, whilst Chris Beeston claimed the Goal of the Season
with his superb strike in the 6-0 win at Malvern in April.
In closing the evening, Vice-Chairman Andy Nicholls spoke
eloquently about the new impetus behind the club, the support of their
sponsors and the club's aspirations for the future, saying that "within
the club there is a huge swell of optimism. Rocester has become a
well-run community based football club with superb facilities, an
excellent pitch, commitment on and off the field and with a plan in
place to achieve more next season than previously thought possible."
