2017-18 Pre-Season Schedule Confirmed

Romans fans can look forward to a feast of football in July when Danny Martin's team prepare for the new season with seven attractive fixtures, four of them at Hillsfield.

Saturday 8th July - Mickleover R.B.L. v Rocester (3pm)

Mickleover Royal British Legion, to give them their full title, play in the Central Midlands League South Division. Last season they finished in 8th place, four positions below Hucknall Town who emphatically ended our F.A. Vase hopes before Christmas. This will be the first ever meeting between the two clubs, and if you haven't visited their ground before it's a great little setting and well worth the short trip.

Ground Address: Poppyfields Drive, Mickleover, Derby DE3 9GQ

Saturday 15th July - Rocester v Port Vale XI (3pm)

As always we are indebted to our former player Mick Ede for agreeing to bring a young Port Vale side to Hillsfield. Supporters will know that this has become a regular feature of our pre-season build-up, and is generally a well-contested game against young players trying to make their way in the professional game.

Tuesday 18th July - Uttoxeter Town v Rocester (7.45pm)

It's many years since a Rocester side ventured into nearby Uttoxeter to take on the Town, and this is sure to attract a good-sized crowd at Oldfields as our Midland League Division One neighbours attempt to put one over us! Town finished last season in a healthy mid-table position and their young team will be relishing the chance to impress against higher opposition.

Saturday 22nd July - Rocester v Mickleover Sports (3pm)

Higher league opposition visit Hillsfield in the shape of Mickleover Sports, of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division. A tough game for the Romans against a team that play two steps higher, but a great chance for our players to test themselves.

Monday 24th July - Rocester v Burton Albion XI (7.45pm)

We have all followed Burton's exploits in recent years as they have risen incredibly from the Northern Premier League to the Football League Championship. The Brewers will be sending largely a Development squad but hope to include a few of their first-teamers on the night. It's a few years since Burton have sent a team across, and it's not every day we get the chance to see a Championship level team at Hillsfield, so we hope to get a good attendance for this one!

Thursday 27th July - Rocester v Gresley (Don Hill Memorial Trophy) (7.45pm)

Our neighbours Gresley agreed to move this match from its original date to enable us to play Burton on Monday. Matches against Gresley are always eagerly anticipated, and this one will complete a really intense five days. The splendid Don Hill Memorial Trophy is up for grabs, which is currently held by the Romans after beating South Normanton Athletic last summer.

Saturday 29th July - Hilton Harriers v Rocester (3pm)

The final warm-up game sees us visit local Staffordshire County Senior League Premier Division side Hilton Harriers. We look forward to making the short trip into Derbyshire which will see the clubs meet for the first time.

Ground Address: The Mease, Hilton, Derbyshire DE65 5LS

Admission prices for our home fixtures will be updated on this page in due course.
