Karl Ashton signs for the Romans

Rocester F.C. are delighted to announce to signing of experienced striker Karl Ashton.

With the Romans will be hoping that Ashton will provide the spark to ignite their fight for survival in the Midland Football League Premier Division following a poor sequence of results that has left them rooted to the bottom of the table.

The much-travelled front man had a brief spell with the Romans at the start of last season scoring 10 goals in 15 appearances, and a repeat of that kind of return would be a real boost for the club.

29-year-old Karl has scored over 250 non-league goals for the likes of Stafford Rangers, Gresley, Belper Town, Rushall Olympic  and Mickleover Sports, where he won two league titles as a team mate of Romans boss Danny Martin and players Martin Smyth and Eric Graves.

He started his career at a trainee at Derby County, and he also represented England at Under-17 and Under-18 levels when Daniel Sturridge was a team mate.

Speaking after the capture, Danny Martin said; I'm delighted to bring Karl in, we've lacked experience up top and he will change that for us. He will go straight into the squad for Saturday's trip to Lye Town".

"We go back a long way as he was my 'boot boy' at Derby County, cleaning my boots for a year when I was a professional and he was in the U-18s.
